The Invincibility of Man

It was interesting learning about the various different forms of sensory perception and the experiments commissioned to discover our abilities. I was not surprised when we learned that we tend to be overconfident in what experiments would work on us and how we would not have the 'wool pulled over our eyes.' Although some would call this bold stupidity, I think it is what has allowed the human race to advance to such incredible proportions. If not for our thoughts of invincibility, we would never venture into the unknown. We would not venture past our comfort zone-failing to discover so much of what the world has to offer. It is this thought process that led to the Titanic and Lance Armstrong's 'small step.'

  1. Interesting insight, never thought about it that way. And it amazes me how our perception is like another being within us. For example, we spoke of the case where you have a barrier between one's hand and a rubber glove, and you rub both, when you stop rubbing the person's hand and continue rubbing the glove, the person still feels it. Even though one would think he would not feel the rubbing anymore, their perception is deceived and feels the rubbing nonetheless.
