Hello everyone,
It is common to see some people in a class getting excited about group work and others wanting to work alone. This past week we learned about certain behavior in groups. Social loafing, for example, might cause a person to do a worse job than they would on their own, even without realizing it. When giving group assignments, teachers are looking for equal participation from the students, but the students might not see it this way. They might think that they are getting the easy way out by acting like they are doing their fair share of the project when really, their partner is the one doing it all. This is a difficult concept to grasp, especially because working in groups can teach us important skills. Despite the fact that working alone could be more effective for students who would generally not contribute to group work, group work is still important in my opinion. Is it more important for people to work in groups to achieve a common goal, or to work individually? Sometimes it is good for a person to be put in a situation where there is deindividuation. They will not feel the pressure of working alone and will be able to put their ideas into the group and go along with whatever morals the group has instead of focusing on themselves. I believe that the skills of group work and individual work are necessary for success and will help a a person see the perspectives of others.
hello!
ReplyDeletei loved your post. It totally fit in with the video we watched today. personally, i only like working with certain kinds of people. I hate working wih people who are just plain stupid and dont get anything and expect you to basically explain them everything. Even more than that, i cant stand working with people who just assume that you are going to do all the work. That is why i often thing that group work is unjust. However, when you have a good partner, then i think the dreaded work that must be done can actually be fun since your with a person with whom you have an understanding and can be productive with.
P.S: could i be more bitter?!?!
