Many of you may have heard of the idea of lucid dreaming. That's probably because it's a super cool phenomenon. Lucid dreaming happens when you are aware of the fact that you are dreaming and can therefore control what happens in your dreams. So, how can you make this happen? Actually, anyone can have lucid dreams with a little practice.
When you wake up in the morning, immediately record your dreams from the night before in a dream journal. Make sure to do this right when you wake up, or you will forget the content of your dream within just a few minutes. Next, make sure do regularly do "reality checks" throughout your day. Make sure the time of day is right and tick on regularly. Count something, turn away, and count it again to make sure it is the same. These reality checks reassure you that you are not dreaming, but you are awake and in reality. If you make this a habit, you will do reality checks in your dreams and consequently realize you are in fact dreaming. Also, when you find yourself falling asleep, try to picture one of your rent dreams and what would have happened if you could have controlled the dream The goal is to make yourself aware of the fact that you are actually dreaming! If you wake up in the middle of the night and try to fall back asleep, you may experience sleep paralysis (which was so wonderfully explained by Noga in her blog post) and then lucid dreaming.
Scientists disagree over the validity of lucid dreaming. Many believe that yes, it is possible and can happen to anyone. Others refute that claim as nonsense.
Here is a lovely informational videos:
Given what we have been learning about sleep, do you guys think this is possible? Has it happened to you? Would you like to try it? I certainly would. I would definitely go swimming with the sea turtles. What would you do if you could control your dreams?
